FAQS & CONSUMER INFORMATION

DO I NEED TO BE AN ARTIST TO DO ART THERAPY?

Not at all. Art therapy is about expression, not performance. Most clients come in feeling nervous about art-making — and many leave surprised by how meaningful, calming, and clarifying it can be. Your work does not need to look a certain way. In fact, the goal is often to let go of perfectionism and use creativity as a pathway into authenticity, self-compassion, and emotional flexibility.

ARE YOU ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS?
No, Individual outpatient art therapy clients are not being accepted.

San Antonio Art Therapy still provides workshops, trainings, collaborative art installations, and coming soon-supervision, on a limited basis. Stay tuned for more details.

HOW CAN I ACCESS MY ART THERAPY RECORDS?
You have the right to request access to your health records. To request records from San Antonio Art Therapy, please submit a written request to your treating clinician or to the practice directly. Records will be provided in accordance with Texas law and applicable privacy regulations.
IS ART THERAPY A REGULATED PROFESSION?
Yes, in order for a provider to call themselves an art therapist and provide art therapy, they must possess the appropriate credential and license. The particular license is the Licensed Professional Counselor-Art Therapist (LPC-AT). Registration and Board Certification from the ARt Therapy Credentials Board is also required. This is signified by the ATR and ATR-BC letters.

In the State of Texas, professional counseling and behavioral health professions are regulated through the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC). BHEC serves as the statewide oversight body for behavioral health licensure regulation and consumer protection

If you have questions about provider licensure, regulatory standards, or wish to contact the Council, you may reach BHEC using the information below:
